1928 – 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Delvena Vera “Jackie” Sears (nee: Powell), in Belton, Missouri. She passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in the care of her family and hospice nurses.
Born May 30, 1928, in Grandview, Missouri, she was the daughter of Rodney and Dora Powell. Jackie lived a long and meaningful life, dedicating herself to her family.
Those who knew her will remember her for her cooking and flower gardens. She always enjoyed tending the flower beds and mowing her yard. Jackie spent many hours each summer canning surplus tomatoes, sweet corn, and several varieties of jams and preserves. She spent the colder months reading contemporary novels.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, of 58 years, James Karl Sears; her parents, Rodney and Dora Powell; her brothers and siters, Robert Vincent (Kathryn) Powell, William Voran “Bill” (Ernestine) Powell, Mary Velma “Sis” (Herman) Tabor, and Marie Velda “Babe” (James) Spencer; two nieces, Mickey Tabor and Margo (Donald) Beal.
Jackie is survived by her children, Jane Elizabeth Sears and James Scott Sears; granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Egleston; and great-granddaughter Alexis Marie Egleston; many nieces and nephews (of the regular, great, and great-grand varieties); and a few dear friends who have journeyed as long as Jackie has.
Visitation will be held at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Road, Grandview, MO, on July 18, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
A graveside service will take place at Belton Cemetery in Belton, MO, on July 18, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity or organization. Something meaningful to Jackie would be health concerns that her family has experienced: heart disease, stroke and neurological research, and Alzheimer's research and support. Or contributions to your local hospice.
