Donald Robert Vaughn

Born to Bella (McClelland) and Lee Vaughn in Bay City, MI on October 22, 1933; died at Mt. Vernon, MO Veteran’s Home on November 2, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Not a victim, nor a survivor, but a true fighter to the very end of many forms of cancer. He was dedicated to his church, family and country. Don was a Korean War veteran and served 27 years in the Air Force, followed by 15 years with the Naval Reserves and two years with the Marine Reserves as a civilian employee. Don was a devout Catholic. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, and Notre Dame and Michigan football.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Father Mason Vaughn, and sisters and spouses Ruth Couture (Bob) and Mae Rosebush (Mel), all of Michigan.

Surviving Don are his wife Elizabeth (Betty) and children – Teresa Vaughn and Bill Uding, Susan and Scott Larson, Daniel and Beth Vaughn, Stephen and Marda Vaughn, Chris and Kathy Vaughn, and Shannon Vaughn; also their eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and close family friends Muddasar and Shaheena Husain. Also surviving are Don’s sisters – Betty Sutton of Traverse City, MI and Joyce Grant of Flint, MI, many nieces, nephews and family friends.

Don and Betty resided in Grandview, MO for 42 years and were members of Coronation of Our Lady Parish before moving to Branson, Mo and was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Branson, MO.

Visitation will be at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Rd. Grandview, MO on Thursday, November 6th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m with Rosary at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be at Coronation of our Lady, 13000 Bennington in Grandview on Friday, November 7th at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield, MO on Monday, November 10th. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Parish at a later date. Donations may be made to the church, Wayside Waifs, or a charity of your choice.
