Elizabeth “Liz” Terry Schmitt, age 61, beloved daughter, niece, cousin and friend, passed away on June 4, 2022. Preceded in death by parents Michael and Penny Schmitt of Craftsbury Common, VT. Survived by her two loving cats, Rudy and Creamsicle; aunts Patricia Ward, Christine Lamarca, Kathie Woods, and cousins, Jennifer (Tom) Boyles, Timothy (Debbie) Woods, John (Andrea) Woods, James Woods and many friends.
Liz was born and raised in New York City, NY and moved to Vermont as a teenager when her parents purchased a country Inn. She graduated from Craftsbury Academy and went on to Bryn Mawr College where she earned a philosophy degree before continuing her education at the University of Vermont where she earned her nursing degree. Liz worked as an EMT in Burlington, VT before relocating to the Kansas City area in the 1990’s where she worked as an RN at various hospitals. She continued her education and earned a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following high school, college and professional sports. She was a diehard KC Royals fan, a Sporting Kansas City fan, a KC Chiefs fan in addition to remaining faithful to her beloved NY Mets. Liz had a knack for remembering stats for every team, every player and season, but what Liz cherished most in life were animals, big and small; especially her two cats, Rudy and Creamsicle. More recently, Liz worked and volunteered with the KC Pet Project and Wayside Waifs where she could be closer to the animals that she loved. She considered herself “Mostly Retired”. Everyone who knew Liz knew she had a way with words, a great sense of humor and a huge heart, especially for those animals who needed some extra love and care. Liz will be greatly missed by all two legged and four legged friends who knew her.
