Jacob Layne Gleason
November 4, 1987 – April 8, 2018
Jacob Layne Gleason, 30, passed away peacefully in his sleep April 8, 2018. Jake was born November 4, 1987, in Satana, Kansas, to Tim Gleason and Trena Brooks. He moved to Belton, Missouri, and graduated from Belton High School in 2006. Jake started playing guitar at a young age and when he heard “Jukebox Hero,” he realized he belonged on stage. Jake played in the bands The Starboard Side, Thunder Eagle, and American Ghouls. His passion for music defined him, along with his teddy bear nature and big heart. The only thing Jake treasured more than heavy metal was being a dad. The love and pride he had for his children was immeasurable. The joy of his life was spending time with the people he loved and partying hard. Jake loved feeding people so he spent time as a chef - loved making people laugh so he spent time working on stand-up comedy his last few months - loved telling stories because he enjoyed making people smile.
Jake is survived by his two daughters, Ellie Gleason and Caleigh Scott; his fiancé, Kylee Pennay and her children, Weston Coffman, Jack Pennay, and Lincoln Pennay; and his Emma bug, Emma Murphy. Jake always had immense pride for his three brothers: Dylan Gleason, Austin Slater, and Samuel Slater; and his sister, Erin Thompson. He is also survived by his parents, Tim Gleason and Trena Slater; his grandmother, Nancy Amfar (Dale Amfar); and his Grandmother, June Brooks.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Alfred (Sam) Brooks and his grandfather William Gleason.
Jake left behind a huge loving family that included friends and bandmates.
His rebel walk took him from us too soon.
