Born in St. Louise Missouri to Ruth and James Dabbs, Jerry and his 2 brothers and 1 sister moved to Lake of the Ozarks at the age of 12, where his parents bought a marina.
Helping run the marina, Jerry learned how to drive all kinds of boats, including cruisers with multiple engines. He became so good at doing so, the boat owners would pay him, as a teenager, to drive and park their boats for them.
Jerry met his future wife, Kim, when he was 15 and she just 13 at the local roller skating rink where he worked.
He went on to trade school as a late teen, learning how to repair boat engines and continued to work around the marina and finally getting into construction.
During a brief marriage, he was blessed with his son Tyler, who has one of his fondest memories seeing the ocean for the very first time, with his dad.
Two years after Tyler's birth, Jerry ran into Kim again and soon after married in 1991. They remained so until his death just shortly after their 35th wedding anniversary.
Jerry was a dynamic, outgoing man who gave generously of his time and help when people were in need. He loved all things water related; fishing, boating, trick and barefoot water skiing and scuba diving. He also loved playing snow skiing, golf, bowling and playing billiards. And he was always up for going to the beach.
Jerry, his wife and his sister and brother in-laws, Gina and Rex, did a lot of vacationing together, whether as couples or with his nieces and nephew, Courtney, Melissa and Nick, who he watched grow up.
Jerry leaves behind his wife Kim, son Tyler, 3 grandchildren Aidean, Charlotte and Wyat, and one surviving brother and sister, Robbie and Theresa. His older brother Jimmy and his parents preceded him in death.
Celebration of life for Jerry will be held on Sunday, October 4th at Meet Me on Main in downtown Belton at:
515 Main St., Belton, Mo. 64012
Visitation will be held from 11:15 to 12:00, and a brief “Words of Remembrance” will be given by his Chaplain from hospice.
