Kenneth (Ken) Lee Thompson was born on December 18, 1937, to LeRoy and Edith Thompson in Merrimack, Oklahoma, however, was raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Wichita West High in 1955. He then joined the US Marine Corps in October 1955, where he served for 20 years, and received numerous accolades, until his retirement in 1975.
Ken met his wife, Anita Louise, in July 1957 and they were married in June 1958. After he served our country, he went to work for then, First National Bank which changed to Boatman’s Bank, and then became Bank of America, where he retired as a Vice President in 1999. Ken loved the Marines, collecting Cougars and spending time with his family.
Ken is survived by his wife, Anita Thompson, as well as his four grandchildren, Danielle Collins, Megan Thompson, Jason Davis & Scott Thompson, sisters, Donis Kay Beauchesne & Francis Watts as well as many nieces and nephews. Ken was proceeded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Edith, as well as his two children, Christian Alan & Tamara Jo.
Services will be held at McGilley and George Funeral Home in Grandview, Mo on Friday, September 24th with visitation at 10am, and services beginning at 11am. The interment will directly follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in memory of Ken to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
