Mary Charlotte (Mauger) Hiller, 95 of Grandview, MO entered into rest at Kansas City Hospice, Kansas City, MO, December 26, 2020 with family by her side. Mary was born June 6, 1925 in Frackville PA where she lived most of her young life. Mary met Robert (Bob) Larry Hiller at McGuire AFB, New Jersey while working at the base Post Exchange as a clerk, and married April of 1956. Mary and Bob enjoyed 55 years of marriage until his passing November of 2011. Mary loved being an Air Force military wife and homemaker. Her life revolved around taking care of her family and her devotion to the Catholic faith. Mary enjoyed the military life and the travel opportunities it provided throughout Bob’s 26-year career. She is best remembered as being a loving mother, grandmother, seamstress, and having a “green thumb”. Mary’s beautiful singing voice was commonly heard as she busied herself around the house while listening to the many songs that Bob would play for her enjoyment. However, her greatest pleasure was a house full of family with all the noise and bustle that came with them often stating that having her grandchildren around “kept her young”.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ret. MSGT Robert L. Hiller; parents Mary (Minahan) Yanchulis, Harry Mauger, and stepfather Charles Yanchulis; sisters Elizabeth Michaels, June Gushen, and brother Edward Mauger. Survivors include her brother Anthony Yanchulis (Frackville PA); son Bruce (Corinne) Hiller, Kansas City; daughters Charlene Combs, Wichita KS, and Monica Miller Raytown MO. Grandchildren Laura, Timothy, Cameo, Kevin, Andrew, Brett, and Dean along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the care staff of John Knox Village Memory Care Unit 2 who have become family to them for the past 3 years while Mary lived there. Especially in this trying year, they took care of Mary, loved her, and were there for her every day. We cannot thank them enough for their time and efforts to comfort and care for Mary and her family during her stay with them. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
