

Mary Merie Mashburn, 103, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri went to meet Jesus, Jan. 13, 2026 after a brief illness, surrounded in her final days by many family members and her husband of 75 years, Carl Mashburn. She was born on Sept. 13, 1922 at the Morgan homestead near Bolivar, Missouri, to George French and Margaret Elizabeth (Mohler) Morgan. She married Carl W. Mashburn on Jan. 7, 1951.
She is survived by her husband, Carl of Lee’s Summit, MO, son Thomas A Phillips (Wanda) of Collins, MO, daughters Mary Kathleen Russell (James) of Collins, MO, Joy L O’Kane (Ronald) of Raymore, MO and Karla K Lucas (Frank) of Anderson, IN, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Wilma and Marjorie and brother Billie, husband of 8 years Thomas Edwin Phillips and son Larry S Phillips.
Mary besides being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker held many different jobs throughout her long life including working at the Boeing Aircraft factory in Washington state as a bike messenger and typist during WW2, went to real estate school and earned her real estate license, worked in retail at Truman Corners in Grandview, banking, IRS data entry, and retired after 16 years of service from the Dept of Defense, Marine Corps.
Mary was a devoted wife to Carl and enjoyed 60+ years in their home in Grandview. They enjoyed many years of square dancing as members of several square dance clubs in the KC area. They traveled the nation in their two RV motorhomes and were snowbirds in Yuma, AZ, during the winter for many years.
Mary was an avid crafter and hobbyist. Her talents included seamstress, knitting, crocheting and above all a beautiful quiltmaker. She crafted quilts for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren until she was no longer able to do that. She crafted many quilts gifted to charity for the Missouri Baptist Children's Home's Apple Festival; winning numerous ribbons for her beautiful work. She was a terrific cook and held the family title of “Best Pie Maker Ever”.
Mary was a lifelong member at First Baptist Church Grandview and attended there until she could no longer drive. She was an active member for 25+ years of Lee’s Summit Quilt Guild and took many workshops and classes to elevate her quilting skills.
Mary will be missed by all her family and friends but her love and kindness will live on in their memories of her.
Services for Mary will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026 at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Rd, Grandview, MO. Visitation 10:00-12:00 with service immediately following visitation.
