Opal Evon Simmons
April 24, 1938 – April 15, 2019
Opal “Evon” Simmons went home to her Savior on April 15, 2019. Evon was born April 24, 1938 in Shannon County, Missouri to Philip & Frances Jordan. The family was raised around Bunker, MO where Evon was the fifth child in a family of 12 children.
She was introduced to the love of her life, Wayne Simmons, by her sister Marie. She & Wayne exchanged letters while Wayne was serving in the United States Army and they were married August 27, 1955.
Evon was loved by everyone she met. She had a witty, caring and generous heart. She loved the Lord and served Him alongside Wayne for many years in many churches. She was a well-respected Pastor's wife. Evon was a very hard worker and had a very strong work ethic. She held many jobs throughout the years and finally Walmart where she retired in 2012 after being with them for 25 years.
She loved to cook, sew and travel. Her favorite hobby was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was playful and kind and patient with them and would love to make up stories to tell them. Although she was passionate about traveling with her family she was most proud that she was able to treat her daughters and their husbands to a cruise in March 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents Philip and Frances Jordan, 2 sisters Marie Meade and Betty Terrell, 2 brothers Virgil Jordan and Phil Jordan; and her husband of 56 years Wayne Simmons. She is survived by 3 daughters Terry (Kurt) Stretch, Linda (Mike) Wilkerson, Angela (Gary) Donald, 7 grandchildren Kris (Chad) Graves, Becky (Chad) Potter, Brandon Stretch, Philip (Terry) Wilkerson, Kaylie Hester, Jacob (Hope) Hester, Justin Donald. Two great grandchildren Silas Potter and Henry Hester and new one due in October 2019. 4 sisters Marge Baum, Nadean Lemons Phyliss (Kenny) Wahlig, Kathy (Jarred) Givens, 3 brothers Bob (Vivian) Jordan, George (Georgia) Jordan and Bud (Angie) Jordan A sister- in-law Naomi Sullivan. Many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be at McGilley & George funeral home in Grandview, Missouri on April 18th, 2019 from 6-8 PM. There will be a second visitation at James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem, Missouri on April 20th, 2019 from 10-11:30 am, followed by funeral service and burial at Greeley Cemetery in Bunker, Missouri.
