
His sister Ruth Frey preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hazel Van Bronkhorst; son Douglas Kathy Van Bronkhorst; daughter Susan Bill Warner; his grandchildren, Derek Colleen Warner, Brent Janay Warner, Jennifer Warner fiancAC.e Tyson Kelly and Kevin Marcy Van Bronkhorst. Also surviving are his brother John Judy Van Bronkhorst; sister Lois Jim Bennett; brother Dave Molly Van Bronkhorst; brother-in-law Jack Frey; and many nieces and nephews.
Alan was born in Grand Rapids on September 1, 1923 and raised in Conrad, Montana near his favorite place, Glacier National Park. He was a US Naval officer in WWII, a graduate of Western Michigan University, with a graduate degree from the University of Michigan. He identified himself as a physicist, but was in fact an actual rocket scientist. Most of his career was with Lear Siegler Smith’s Industries, Inc. designing missile guidance systems. Alan was a lifelong member of the Reformed Church in America, most recently a charter member and elder at Hagar Park Reformed Church. He loved his family, reformed theology, gardening, reading, carpentry, writing, bow ties, teaching, playing the piano, U. of M. football, golf and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Family members may be visited on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel east building 4235 Prairie St. SW, in Grandville.
A Memorial Service and celebration of the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25th in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church of Grandville, 3060 Wilson SW, with Pastors Chip Sauer and Stuart Blauw officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the J. David Gladstone Institute for Neurological Disease, Alzheimer’s Research, 1650 Owens St., San Francisco, CA 94107.
