

Anna Jaan Wiersma (VanderNaalt), age 95, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 19, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wiersma; parents John and Jantje VanderNaalt Sr.; siblings Herm (Lydia) VanderNaalt, Betty (Vern) Hiltz, Jennie Elliot, John (Jeanette) VanderNaalt Jr., and Stewart (Pauline) VanderNaalt. She will be lovingly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Anna graduated from Shelby High School in 1945 and she moved to Grand Rapids. Anna completed the 3-year course of instruction and practice at Pine Rest Sanitarium and Christian Psychopathic Hospital. After passing the state boards, she was awarded their Graduate Psychiatric Nurse diploma on May 11, 1948. She worked in their Vocational Development Rehabilitation Services / Work Adjustment Training for over 25 years and donated many volunteer hours there after her retirement.
Her husband, Marv, and Anna were married on November 4, 1949 and lived on their dairy farm in Byron Center. There, Marv raised cows with his brother, Frank. They were married for 39 years until Marv's passing in 1988. They also fostered several children in their early married life. Marv and Anna especially enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home. Anna enjoyed participating in the annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk and was awarded many certificates for her successful completion of the walk. Anna and Marv loved the Lord and were dedicated members of Corinth Reformed Church where Anna was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing solos or duets with her sisters and sharing her gift with others.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be determined.
Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. In honor of Anna and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edison Christian Living Center, 1010 Edison Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
