Anne Root

ROOT - Anne Root, age 93, of Jenison, was greeted by her Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Her husband, Alfred, sons, Roger and Larry, and great-grandson, Gabriel preceded her in death, along with her brothers, John, Gerrit, Sam, and Hank; in-laws, Marian Sterk, Wilma Sterk Miedema, Carl and Gladys Root, Richard Root, Earl and Barb Root, and Jerry Heyboer. She was the second of 11 children born to Anna and Peter Sterk. Born in the Netherlands, she immigrated to the United States at the age of five.

She is survived by her children, Jerry (Dana) Root of Holland, Judy (Conrad) VanderWerf of Jenison, Carol (Steve) Burman of Hudsonville, Tim (Ruth) Root of Jenison; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Root of Jenison. Her 14 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren adored her. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Joe (Alice) Sterk, Bill (Reet) Sterk, Ken (Joyce) Sterk; sisters- and brother-in-law, Shirley (Jim) Schipper, Betty (Bob) DeJong, Jeanette Visser, Donna Sterk, Fran Sterk, David Visser, Lavern Root, Esther Root; and many nieces and nephews.

A time for relatives and friends to visit with Anne’s family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Thursday, October 19, at Fellowship Reformed Church, 6610 36th Ave. in Hudsonville. Please enter through Door D. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, October 20, at the church. Interment will be at Grandville Cemetery.

In honor of Anne, contributions may be made to Sunset Legacy Foundation or God’s Kitchen.

Mom exuded grace and brought joy to the many lives she touched. She is undoubtedly hearing the loving words of her Savior, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
