Annette Marie Blaschka

Annette “fought the fight” of acute AML leukemia for almost two years, having survived a previous cancer in 2000.

Annette was born on December 3, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio to Pat and Bob Walters. Her “big brother” Bob named her.

Annette is loved by her sons, Christopher Armstrong and Ian Blaschka; her parents, Bob and Pat Walters; brother Bob and sister-in-law Diane; her nephew Matthew Walters, USMC; her niece Kelly Walters; and great niece Brooklyn Marie. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, some who helped with her weeks of Hospice care, especially, Kim Smith and Maggie Porter. The family would also like to acknowledge the medical care extended to Annette by Dr. Michael Zakem, her oncology nurses at Spectrum Butterworth Campus and the medical staff at U of M Cancer Center.

Annette graduated from GRJC in 1979 with an RN degree. She worked at Metropolitan Hospital for 20 years, the last 15 years being in the Child Birth Center, which she loved. Annette is remembered by many mothers whom she helped bring their babies into this world. She also enjoyed her work at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where she taught religious education. Annette is remembered for her concern and interest of others and her always ready smile.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel east building 4235 Prairie St SW in Grandville, and also one hour prior to the service at church.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Father Ron Hutchinson and Father Lou Stasker will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19th at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Baldwin St in Jenison.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Annette’s name to the Leukemia Society or Hospice of Michigan.
