

Arlene Mae Katerberg, age 81, went to be with her Lord Friday, August 19, 2022. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Ralph (Rudy) and Effie Katerberg. She will be remembered by her siblings Loren (Marsha) Katerberg, Ralph (Beth) Katerberg, Sharon (John) Winkel; nephews and nieces Steve (Mary) Katerberg, Krista (Bob) Crawford, David Katerberg, Robert (Hilary) Katerberg, David Katerberg, Jonathan Katerberg, Travis (Sierra Dennis) Drake, Todd (Nami Lee) Katerberg, Jonathan Winkel, Amber (Garret) Westfall, Jennifer (Nate) Fatum, Brianna Winkel, Andrea Winkel; many precious great-nieces and great-nephews; and an abundance of special cousins and friends.
Arlene was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan August 12,1941, the first child of Rudy and Effie Katerberg. Arlene committed her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and spent her whole life in praise and service to Him. Arlene graduated from Unity Christian High School and went on to attend Reformed Bible Institute (Kuyper College). She graduated from G.R.C.C. Nursing school as an LPN and continued her education at Barrington College in Rhode Island, graduating with a B.A. degree in elementary education. Arlene earned her master’s degree in education from Michigan State University and went on to teach at Jenison Christian Elementary School for over 40 faithful years.
Arlene was a lifetime member at Hope CRC where she was highly involved in many ministries of the church. Additionally, she directed choir and played both organ and piano for many years. Her mission work included time spent working for Wycliffe Bible Translators, Bethany Christian Services Pregnancy Hotline, and as a mentor for young mothers at Love INC. Arlene was also a longtime member of the Metropolitan Choir of Praise.
Arlene was a world traveler and enjoyed a lifetime of adventure. She was blessed to visit every continent and was often accompanied by her best friend, Judy Oppenhuizen. Her many experiences were often used to enrich her teaching. Arlene was a devoted and loving teacher, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Celebration of Arlene’s Life will commence at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Hope Christian Reformed Church, 3110 Barrett St., Grandville, MI 49418. Pastor Dale Fopma will be officiating. In honor of Arlene and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Love INC or World Renew. Interment will be at Grandville Cemetery.
