Barbara “BJ” Veneklasen, age 75, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, November 28, 2021 while surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Gladys Schrotenboer and her siblings Gene Schrotenboer, Lois Woodrum, and Robert Schrotenboer. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 53 years, Wayne Veneklasen; children Kelly Dailey, Amy (Ethan) Wright, Courtney (Nate) Golin; grandchildren Gavin Dailey, Emma, Avery, and Josey Wright, Sophie Golin; siblings Jeannie (Roger) VanHaitsma, Loren (Marcia) Schrotenboer; and many extended family and friends.
BJ had a caring servant’s heart for others. She would always welcome friends and family into her home for thoughtful family gatherings. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. BJ also was a fighter, she survived a battle with breast cancer for 12 years and never gave in when diagnosed with leukemia last year. One of the most important aspects of her life was her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a member at First Reformed Church of Grandville where she attended for over 30 years, taught Sunday school, and served on the mission council. She will be deeply missed by those who were touched by her kindness, love, and support.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021 at First Reformed Church of Grandville, 3060 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
