
Carl is survived by his wife of 55 years Constance J. Groening; children, Carl E. Mary Kay Groening, Paula Mairs, Christine John Wiseman, Ronald Groening, Richard Susan Groening, and Timothy Groening; grandchildren, Ian and Molly Mairs, Johnny and Joey Wiseman, Ronald Joseph “RJ” and Charlyann Groening, and Matthew, Zachary, and Catherine Groening; great grandson Nathan Mairs; brother Robert H. Groening; and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was a decorated combat veteran of WWII in the Middle East and European Theater.
He worked 44 years for the C & O Railroad and retired in 1978.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 2700 Baldwin St. meet at church with Father Nash officiating.
Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
The family will meet with relatives and friends Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Jenison Chapel 1889 Baldwin St..
A Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
