Carole was born June 13, 1944, in Great Barrington, Mass. She was the daughter of Leonard A. Cowett and Frances A. Taylor.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles D. Chenevert, of Lowell, Michigan; daughter, Sherri Lee Chenevert, and Sherri’s partner, Maryclaire Picolli, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; son, Mark Alan Chenevert, and his wife, Kathleen Howard, of Pinckney, Michigan; grandchildren Hannah Isabella and Grant Taylor Chenevert; brother-in-law, Peter Scott Chenevert, and his wife, Kathy Chenevert, of Madison, Maine; nephew, Shawn Chenevert, of Madison, Maine; and niece, Devin Chenevert, of Fairfield, Maine.
Carole and her husband Chuck met during Carole’s junior year, having transferred from Sanford High School in Sanford, Maine.
Carole graduated from Winslow High School in 1962. Her accomplishments included being the senior class secretary, a member of the yearbook council, student government secretary, honor commission, being a varsity cheerleader, and attending Girls State.
In her professional life, Carole started Sugaring Sled Antiques in Milford, Michigan and Mad Anthony Books in Ada, Michigan. She was also on the town council of Milford, Michigan.
Carole truly enjoyed the antique business. She was active in buying and selling antique furniture and collectibles, and she opened a storefront named Sugaring Sled Antiques.
When Carole and Chuck moved back to the Grand Rapids area, she started an antique book business named Mad Anthony Books.
Carole’s focus and life expanded when her two grandchildren, Hannah and Grant, came into her world. Carole and her granddaughter, Hannah, had the opportunity to develop a very close relationship from the very beginning, resulting in them taking annual road trips in Grandma’s Thunderbird together visiting Auntie Sherri, family, and friends on the east coast.
Carole was a special loving and caring person who dearly loved her family and close friends. She had the unique ability to see the best in everyone. She leaves behind a legacy and memory that makes everyone who knew her a better person.
Her lasting memorial is “We Will Gather in the Stars.” For her husband Chuck, “She was the wind beneath my wings.”
Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In honor of Carole and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods (https://faithhospicecare.org/donate/) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html).
