Born in Louisiana on August 10, 1943, to Carson Royce Neifert I and Ella Neifert, Carson's life was a testament to love, service, and joy.
Carson proudly served his country in the Navy, spending two years on a mine sweeper vessel. His dedication to his nation was a family tradition, one he shared with his father, a Brigadier General, and his brother, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Marc Neifert. His sister, Evelyn “Gayle” Adelsberger, was also a cherished part of his life.
A 1961 graduate of Okemos high school, Carson had a long career with American Greetings where he especially enjoyed interacting with the many friends he had made while servicing his accounts. A man of many passions, Carson was a fervent supporter of the Michigan State Spartans and a devoted fan of all Detroit teams, particularly the Tigers. His love for sports extended to baseball, where he spent many seasons coaching his three children and later serving as an umpire. His enthusiasm for the game was matched only by his love of fishing. Carson was an avid fisherman, known for spending countless hours on the lake or on the ice, undeterred by whether the fish were biting.
Beyond his hobbies, Carson was a man of immense generosity. He dedicated numerous hours as a volunteer for the Santa Claus Girls, finding great joy in bringing happiness to others. He also spent many years as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and youth group leader at Grandville United Methodist Church.
Carson was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gayle; sister-in-law, Tiina; niece, Natalia LoBue; and three of his beloved grandchildren Carson, Willie, and Violet Sherman. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Carolyn; children Alison (Eddie) Schmidt, Angela (Dennis) Gort, and Tony (Leah) Neifert; along with brother, Marc (Tiina); and many extended family members. His grandchildren Hayden and Bonnie Schmidt, and Libby and Ella Neifert, will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
Carson Royce Neifert II will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to community service, his contagious laughter and his joy for life. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, Michigan.
