Charles E. Bour

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Arlene; his children Sarah Jeff Karnes of Wyoming, MI; Daniel Arike Bour of Granite Falls, WA; grandchildren Alyssa and Lauren Karnes, and Laila, Joshua, Dineke and Bonnie Bour; siblings Richard Joyce of Grand Rapids, Mary Ira Veenstra of Walker, and Stan Donna of Thousand Oaks, CA.

He was preceded in death by his brother Paul and granddaughter Ester Bour.

He grew up in Grand Rapids, graduating from Union High School in 1948. "Chuck" served in the Air Force from 1948–1952.He worked in the vending business the majority of his working career. The latter part of his life he worked at various jobs. His last job was at Sunnyslope Floral in Grandville, where he made and enjoyed working with many friends. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography. His big passion was sailing. He even built a 23-1/2 ft. wooden schooner, the "Charlene", making everything himself. His other passion was learning about His Lord. He studied the great Puritan writers like Owen and other Reformed theologians. He set an example for all who knew him to seek and "Know God" through His written Word. "Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy, and eat! ...Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." Isaiah 55:1, 6 &7.

A memorial service will be held Thursday August 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Grandville Bible Church. Friends may meet the family on Wednesday August 26, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Grandville, west building, 4235 Prairie St.
