Charles Joseph Rush, age 97, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Lynn Rush; wife, Martha Rush - they were married for 64 years; parents George and Elizabeth Rush; and his brother and sister-in-law John (Kay) Rush.
He will be dearly missed by his children Rick (Ann) Rush and Mark Rush; grandchildren Lindsey, David (Danielle), Derek, Adam, and Zyan; great-grandchildren Sloane and Greyson; many special nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by his loving brothers- and sisters-in-law Gordon and Paulette Anderson, Grover and Sue Breen, Leah Salters, and Nathan and Judy Rose.
He was always very proud to be a part of the Lawrence family. Chuck was born and raised in Washington, PA. At the start of World War II, he joined the US Navy and was a Petty Officer, Third Class, in the Submarine Service based at Pearl Harbor. He attended aircraft mechanic school and then moved to Grand Rapids to work on aircraft. While visiting a local diner on Division Street, he noticed a beautiful cook by the name of Martha and the rest is history. Martha was the love of his life and he was a devoted and faithful husband. Most of his working career was at Steelcase of which he enjoyed working in Special Weld, retiring after 35 years. Chuck had a great love for the outdoors and would hunt and fish as often as he could. He was, at one time, the best archery shooter in West Michigan and president of a local archery club. He also built his own fishing rods, tied flies, and adventured to all terrain Michigan had to offer. Chuck had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and converse with people. He took a keen interest in getting to know and meet new people. He was also very proud of his family and his extended family and was a friend and an encouragement to all. Chuck was a member of Crossroads Fellowship and attended other churches as his health permitted. During his later years he rekindled his faith in Jesus Christ, loved the Lord and so much looked forward to again seeing his wife, Martha. Chuck was fiercely independent and was able to remain in his home with the help of family, friends, neighbors, and Faith Hospice.
Visitation with relatives and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418.
