KELLY Mr. Charles "Ray" Kelly, age 89, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013. Grandpa was born to Patrick and Bessie (Marsh) Kelly on June 27, 1923 and was the last surviving of 12 children. A WWII Navy veteran, grandpa started trucking at age 17 at the CCC's where he earned the name "Truck-a-Day." Later he was Gordon Food Service's first semi driver and known as the Irish Bulldog. He retired from GFS in 1988. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Kelly.
Surviving are his children, Kathleen (Jack) Kelly Baldwin, Charles (Cathy) Kelly, Patrick (Yvonne) Kelly, and Robert (Judith) Kelly; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 4 PM at the Cook Funeral Home, Jenison Chapel, 1889 Baldwin Ave., Jenison. Relatives and friends may meet his family Saturday from 3 PM until the time of his service. Memorial contributions may be made to your local veterans association.
