Dan was a great friend, husband and son. He taught us not take life for granted, but to live each day to the fullest. He will truly be missed by everyone.

I worked with Dan on the Jaycee's golf tournament and always found his humor and unique view to be refreshing. While he was serious about his work and did his various jobs well, he always brought a positive, humorous viewpoint which had a calming effect on those around him. My fondest golf tournament memory of Dan was when, in the middle of a hectic golf tournament week, I asked that if anyone needed anything to do their job better, to let me know. Dan was working security that year. He looked at me and calmly said, "I need a gun." It was exactly the right thing to say, with exactly the right serious tone, at exactly the right moment. He didn't get the gun....at least from me. While I cannot make the memorial service, on that date here in Milwaukee, the beer capital of America, I'll raise one for Dan.

I knew Dan from the times he worked at Spartan Stores. I always enjoyed talking to him about work, golf, and life. Dan had a great sense of humor and a great attitude. I know he will be missed by many here at Spartan.

Dan always had a good joke to tell or a perfect come-back line to any joke told to him. I will always remember his smile and easy-going personality. Dan was always sure to remind me that it was 5:00 somewhere and that we should take advantage of that and enjoy some good sailing juice;- You are missed, Dan, and we shall toast you at 5:00 here on many occasions.

I enjoyed Dan's company many times over the years. Whether we were playing cards, woodworking, or volunteering at the golf tournament or Special Olympics basketball, Dan was always fun to be around. Dan will remain famous for his remark during the basketball tournament, usually made during a time of calamity, that the event "runs itself". I'm sure that many of us will keep Dan's memory alive because he was such a great friend and quite a character.

I worked with Dan in the late 80's and early 90's. He was a terrific guy. He was a great friend and I had many, many laughs and good times with him. Those were great times not only with Dan but his Dad and Mom. I thought of Dan often and am sorry to hear that he has passed.
