David was a business owner who ran his own repossession business for many years. He took pride in his work, and was known for his determination and ability to connect with people. He had an outgoing personality, a unique sense of humor, and a stubbornness that those who knew him well came to love.
In his free time, David enjoyed reading, watching television, and golfing. Some of his fondest memories were of traveling the world with his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty, and sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ted McDonald. More than anything, he adored his family. He loved being surrounded by them and found his greatest joy in his role as a grandfather.
David is survived by his wife, Betty Kok De Vries; children David (Kris) De Vries and Scott De Vries; grandchildren David De Vries (Gabrielle), Rita De Vries (Ryan), Jenee De Vries, and Garritt De Vries; great-grandson, William Diederichsen; step-grandchildren Lukas Duimstra, Abigail Wagner, Korinne Pupel, and Benjamin Duimstra; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial celebration of David’s life will commence 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, with visitation one hour prior, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie Street SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Pastor Mark Veldt will be officiating. In honor of David and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
