David B. Guevara, age 92, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 21, 2021. Born at the onset of the Great Depression in Oilton, TX, various circumstances caused David, at age 14, to head north seeking work to provide for his family, eventually arriving in Grand Rapids, MI. Here, he discovered his talent and love for the trumpet, and was soon in a band playing and singing at music venues stretching from Chicago to Saginaw. Enjoying the climate and fishing, he established permanent roots here as he watched his family expand. He would remarry Wilma (Willie), and settle in Hudsonville, MI for almost 35 years, where they loved to entertain family, friends and neighbors. He would retire from Sligh Clock of Holland. David lived 92 years and 11 days, and took the most pride in celebrating his life’s journey through the eyes and adventures of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; parents Guadalupe Guevara Jr. and Margarita Moreno; brothers Noe (WWII) and Ernesto; sister, Mary Alice; son and daughter-in-law Noe and Shirley; son and daughter-in-law Gilbert and Loretta; and granddaughter, Erika. He will be remembered by his children Annette (Aaron) Hutton, Rudy (Robin) Guevara, Simon (Alicia) Guevara; stepdaughter, Beth Hallmark; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service for David will take place 1 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Visitation with relatives and friends will commence from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. the same day. When in attendance, we kindly ask that guests follow current health protocols for their safety and well-being of the family. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at Grandville Cemetery.
