Don always maintained a good sense of humor even through the hard times in life.  He was a good brother and we all miss him!

So many of the memories speak of a Smileing Don!!  He truly did bring a smile to many people, even if they were not having a good day.  I always appreciated the time Don spent at our company and bumping into him several times after he started up with insurance.  He would always ask about the girls softball.  A bright and caring man, he will be missed.  Sympathies and Prayers to the family, let us know when you plan on having that softball game.  Brad and Mimi Van Manen

Dear Anne, Jesse, Shani, Mallory and Feyen family, 

Putting the right words to paper are difficult to describe this charming, gregarious, compassionate man as well as to remember a specific story within the many years of knowing him. Don loved children. I have memories of Don getting down on the floor to play with Nate and Brad as small boys - inclusing running through the sprinkler with them or squeezing into their small swimming pool. I have a memory of Anne and Don visiting us in Ann Arbor, having a lovely dinner out and then suddenly Don is lying on the floor, feeling very faint and nearly passed out and we are taking a trip to the Emergency Room. In the end, all was fine. He certainly had a way to make any time a lively time!
 
What I can also say is...I was always greeted with a massive bear hug, a huge smile and of course a story or joke. He reverberated happiness and one couldn't help but BE happy in his company. Sure, he had his challenges in life too, but was always a positive and uplifting thinker and doer. Very much a lesson to learn from the way he lived his life. Thank you Don for being in my life, my life is richer and better for knowing you and loving you.

i give my regrets to Ann and fam, i have not seen he often  but the times that i was there he was just a light and he was so happy. he -even when he was recovering  from cancer was happy, and not even worried a bit.

Uncle Don always made me feel loved and important. I always looked forward to seeing him on my visits. Even as I got older he always showed sincere interest in my well being and then the same in my children. Such a big heart he had. He is greatly missed. It is difficult being far away from the family especially in a time like this.  You are all heavy on my heart and I send my love.

It was a gift to see my uncle Don in June of 2021 at Ethan's graduation party. It was a hot day and I can still see him asking my dad how many ice cream bars he had eaten. When dad replied "several", Don said "What are you waiting for, go get me another one!" They were like little kids whose parents weren't watching them. They seemed to have this understanding and silent nod when it was time to get another.

What a gift to have relationships like this. Don was full of joy and so easy going. Everyone was his priority and he made that so clear. He hugged me as much as my parents did growing up and I am so grateful for his impact on my life. 

I'm so sorry to hear this. I met Don through his work with Primerica many years ago when I was still in college...at Hope. So every time I saw him after that he would say "Hey Abby, you know where there's Hope, there's Calvin." He always had a big smile on his face and that's what I'll remember about him. I praise God that Don knew this earth was not his forever home.

Our sincerest sympathy to you, Anne, and to your family.  A kind and gentle man who will be missed.  “May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you and give you his peace.”

Don is a real heart and soul. We miss you more than you may know. A hero in your own right. Always fair. Always kind. Always just and most of all always congenial and compassionate. Your laugh and twinkle in your eye. Always the deep sense of life  - you have God.
Every once in a while someone like you comes around to grace our presence.

Most of my pictures of Don are with children, his own or others. His love for children was immense as it was for adults. I will truly miss his laughter and his compassion for others.

Don always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell, or just share a favorite story.  He was a true servant to Grandville Calvin Christian School through his volunteer work at the Car Lot and many other ways over the years.

Don was proud of being a twin and would always give me a big hug whenever we were together and let others know we were twins.  He often came to my home and spent an hour or more just reminiscing about our growing up years and keeping me up to date on classmates from elementary and high school days. Family was very important to him so he made sure that the siblings would get together for birthdays, holidays and whatever occasion he could come up with.  He will be greatly missed!

Don lived with Pete and I when he was going to Calvin College.  I remember him playing with Kevin while Kevin was taking a bath .. Don would take off his shoes and socks and pour water over Kevin's head and they would both laugh and have the best of times.  I also remember how he and Anne wound come over and visit when they were dating.  Also it's good thing we had a TV because Don would never miss Johnny Carson!!  He will be greatly missed!!

A valued friend indeed!  Cheered @ many Calvin Christian basketball games alongside of Don.  Enjoyed playing against & watching  Softball(CRRC) in which Don was pitching/playing.   Always held a Pleasant disposition,  fun to have a conversation with. May the Holy Spirit comfort the family in this bereavement.  Tom & Sharon Bosma

We pray for comfort and peace for all of Don’s family and friends.  He was certainly a well loved character.  He did remind me too of my dad with his friendly manner and active life. Thankful for his life and place in our extended family.

Everyone was always glad to see or chat with Don. He made everyone feel welcome and appreciated. His warm smile and gracious manner were always present. I appreciated hearing all his stories and his jokes. I remember him telling me about some professional person that was helping him in rehab. Don told him a joke and the person responded that it was clear that Don was ready to move on to recovery. He was a friend to everyone and will be missed by all. 

I was so very sorry to learn of Don’s passing.  My deepest sympathy to his family.  May God provide peace, comfort, and strength in the coming days!

I knew Don from when we both worked at Baker Book House, way back in the good ole’ days - Don at Grandville and myself at Ada.  But, there was a second and way more important connection - fast pitch softball at the Chr Ref Rec Center.  Even after bifocal glasses forced me to switch to the “old” men’s slow pitch game, I would still run into Don from time to time at the Rec Center.  We would always have a great time talking about the past and getting caught up on things!  I’m sure Don will be greatly missed by the family, as well as everybody else who had the pleasure of knowing Don!  Enjoy those ballgames in heaven, my friend!

We have many fond memories of Uncle Don that we will always treasure. During the trips that our family made from Ohio to Michigan when we were children, Uncle Don was one of our favorite people to hang out with - we could always count on him greeting us with a bear hug, big smile, and a joke whenever we visited. 

 
 We would often ask him to tell us stories, which he happily obliged, of his younger years and the various mischief and misadventures that he and our Dad would get into during their growing up years - which we made sure to implement in our own lives. 😉  As we both started looking at colleges in high school, we visited various schools in MI, and visiting with Uncle Don and Aunt Anne was one of the highlights of our visits for us where we would share stories of our college visits and hear Uncle Don reminisce on his own college days.  

As we continued to grow older, we also benefitted from the relationship advice and dating "wisdom" that he imparted upon us. We will always remember Uncle Don for his kindness, joy, love, and excellent sense of humor.

Anne, Shani, Mallory, Jesse and family. I am so sorry for your loss of my dear Uncle Don. He was always so wonderful to my family and me and I wish I could have known him better. One of our favorite parts of visiting Michigan is having a lovely meal at Don and Anne's. We also have fun memories of walking over to watch the 4th of July parade.

If, at the end of your days, you can claim a portion of the love and regard shown here for Don, then you’ve lived your life well. 

Don spent generously with his attention, kindness, acceptance, and good cheer. When my sister and I were little girls, Don wasn’t like the other adults. He ignored that hierarchy and talked to us, asked us questions, responded with warmth. 

My earliest memory of Don and Ann is a Sunday afternoon in the 1970s, when our family was invited to see “the new baby”. That baby was Jesse, and we both have gray in our hair now. They lived in a little house, I think on Floyd Street. We wore our Sunday clothes. Don served us Breyer’s vanilla ice cream, which was kind of a big deal, as both our mom and Ann were way more into Harvest Health. I think of that now, of Don and Anne as a young couple with their first child, so much ahead of them. 

Don was a really good man. May his memory be a blessing.

When Don and I were boys, we were wrestling around on the floor when he threw me into a coffee table. My left eyebrow was gashed. To this day, I have a permanent memento of Don: a crooked left eyebrow.😏I enjoyed his company over the years (although infrequent), especially the breakfasts when he would join us brothers.

I have known Don all my life. Don and his family lived next door to my parents so I grew up playing with Jesse & Shani. Mallory was much younger than us so I would babysit her once in a while. I remember hanging out at their house whenever I wanted. They were very inviting, friendly, caring neighbors. Don and Anne were there for us when my dad passed in 1996 and again there for us when my step dad passed in 2013. They even attended my grandpa's memorial. The picture I shared was from a cookout we held for my step dad. After my step dad passed, my mom needed a smaller house so my husband and I were able to purchase my childhood home. Once again I got to be neighbors with the Feyen's! Don was always working out in his yard, walking the neighborhood, or could be found sitting on his porch. More than once I got a fatherly lecture about using my turn signal when I turned into my driveway. We had many conversations about whose yard was better, the fact that my family and I liked Michigan instead of state, many many dad jokes (he thought he was hilarious) and he always talked about how proud he was of Jesse, Shani and Mallory. He was always ready and willing to sit outside and chat with neighbors. Seemed like his favorite thing to do. He will be missed! If more people were like Don the world would be a much happier place. Rest in peace Don. Don't worry, I'll help take care of your yard. 

I had the privilege of meeting Don and his wife, Ann, at one of the educational classes Mallory provided while working on her degree.  While I don’t know Don deeply, I know his daughter, Mallory.  The loving, kind, gentle nature she has is a joy.  Her friendship sincere.  These qualities many times are a direct result of who and how we are raised.   I can only imagine the love and laughter Don shared with those he loved.  The depth of this loss is immeasurable.  Please accept my sincere condolences.  Cherish the memories.  

One of my first memories of Don was when he was dating my sister Anne.   Being the character that Don was, he thought it would be a great idea if I liked his brother Bill, so he crafted a letter, signed it from Bill and mailed it to my home.  I still have that letter and I mentioned that a few years ago again to Don.  We had a laugh about it.

Whenever we were out with Don and Anne, Don was always stopping to talk with everyone.  It seemed he knew so many people everywhere and he always had a story or a joke about something.

Another memory is that we had Don and Anne up to our Bear Lake home many times.  Don always loved getting on a bicycle and riding the cottage road and of course talking to all the neighbors.  He knew more of our neighbors than we did and when we went out for walks, they would mention that they met him.  That was no surprise at all because, he would of course stop and talk to anyone that was outdoors.

We spent a lot of time with Don in the last couple years.   We always brought lunch, ate with him and enjoyed a cup of coffee in the afternoon with some cookies and chocolate.  We had many great conversations with Don during those visits, watched some old shows and obviously talked about sports.

We will cherish our memories of Don and he will be deeply missed.



Don and Anne were my next door neighbors for 33 years. Without a doubt, the best neighbors anyone could have. My deepest sympathies to Anne, Jesse, Shani, and Mallory.  May God comfort you during this extremely difficult time.
Don was an amazingly unique man. So caring, so funny, so personable. I will cherish the 33 years of knowing Don.


My mom’s twin, my Uncle Don, was very loving, kind, and funny. I will really miss his positive demeanor, hugs, laughter, family baseball games, and his great big smile.  This is a picture of my mom, Donna (Feyen) Postma with her twin brother, Donald (Don) Feyen, probably teasing about their age on one of their birthdays.

I remember Don going way way back to the 1950's when we would visit the Feyen family on the farm in Byron Center. As I remember it, Don had  his own radio in his own bedroom, which was a bit rare at the time. One Sunday afternoon he introduced me and my brother Dave to "The Lone Ranger" radio program.  We weren't sure we could listen to a secular radio program on a Sunday, but we did it anyway. We were so wild and wicked! I don't know why, but I have remembered that a thousand times. I think Don was a lot like my dad when it comes to being upbeat, warm, and gregarious. I will miss him. My prayers go out for all of his family and friends, especially Anne. 

Thinking of Don, the memory that immediately comes to mind is his wonderful laugh, and how good it is to have shared that laughter with him through the years. That laughter could come from a joke that he or someone else told, or from watching an old TV show such as Johnny Carson or MASH or Bob Newhart or any other comedy, but it was always a day-brightened to hear him laugh.

I also remember how much he loved sports, especially baseball. I know very little about baseball, but I remember conversations with Don in which I spoke as though I were a great expert, telling him what I thought a coach or player should have done or why someone made a bad call. That always got a big laugh from Don.

Even more importantly, I remember his kindness and friendship and how he set an example for all of us in the way he accepted and was a friend to anyone who crossed his path. I am certain there are countless people who did not know Don personally, but whose day was brightened by his wonderful laughter, his caring, and his help generously given.

My heart goes out to you, Anne, and to your family; your loss and grief can hardly be put into words. It was so obvious how deeply he loved you, and how much joy he found in sharing his life with you. I remember his joy and pride when each of your children were born.
Hadley and Harper—always remember that he utterly adored you; being with you (and talking about you) gave him so much joy. You truly filled his heart with sunshine.

From taking me camping and fishing when I was barely a teen, to working for Don at the bookstore in high school, and throughout the many decades since, every day you see Don, your day is better.  His ever present smile, his warm and sometimes corny sense of humor, his wonderful positive spirit…lives on. 

I remember as a kid playing bloody murder with Mr. Dons kids. Shanie and Jesse.. they lived next door to our friends the Burks.

And Mr.Don was always so nice and always said hi to us while we were playing  I have always looked forward to seeing him when we visited the Burks.

I cannot think of my Uncle Don without picturing him smiling and laughing, and making the people around him smile and laugh. He was a joy to be around. As children, Don and his wonderful family were a constant part of our lives, whether it was sleepovers with our cousins, time at Grandpa and Grandma Feyen's house, family reunions, or the many other ways and times our paths intersected. I have nothing but happy and fond memories of Don.

While I haven't seen Don and his family as much as I would like since I moved to Texas, they are and always will be near and dear to my heart. While I know he has moved on to a better place, I am saddened that I will not see him again in this life and grieve for his family, whom he loved so deeply and who loved him deeply in return. Rest In Peace, Uncle Don, and may God grant peace to all who mourn his loss.

My most cherished memories for the past ten years or so was spending evenings watching baseball, basketball or any game he wanted to watch at my house. Usually had to have a hot dog, Ice-cream and a gingerale . Also taking him to Bill & Ev's grandkids  ballgames.  He was so proud of all of them. He was always the organizer to get the family together for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Missing him is an understatement but praising God he is free of pain and whole again. Love you Donnie.

Was a friend to Don i think cause i am a big michigan fan.   liked talking to him about that.  I remember he did umpire some of my softball games  back in the day.   My sympathy to his family.  I will miss talking to him.

I love that photo of Don - that's exactly how I remember him. I'd say he was a contagious Christian. He was a man of strong convictions that respected the opinions of those he differed with, and his humor could quickly dispel tension in a room - a rare combination. 
I really wish I could have spent more time with him. I hope I can make it to that honorary softball game. And I look forward to some time with him in the Lord's presence when that time comes.

Don was my big, (little), brother. I have many memories of course but what comes to mind the most is his love of sports and by that his fueling my love of sports, especially baseball. My first memory of following the Detroit Tigers if of their magical 1961 season when they challenged the NY Yankees for the American League pennant. I was 8 years old at the time, Don was 16, and I still recall him yelling so loud after a crucial Norm Cash home run listening to the game while in the bathtub, I thought the radio must have fallen into the tub. We enjoyed having him along on a couple of our baseball trips to major league parks. He loved walking around the stadiums during the games and usually taking a nap at some point during the game. He loved softball of course and while we didn't play on the same teams often we did play together for a few years at the Rec. Center and I was able to serve as his battery mate for probably a couple of the last times that he pitched. He loved watching my grandsons play baseball and was so looking forward to watching them again this coming summer. 
I'll miss ya Don but I'm sure that we will have a catch again in the not to distant future.

Don. You will be missed, but never forgotten.  You have touched so many people with your courage, optimism and hopefulness. Rest in peace and we will see you again with a cup of coffee  in our hands. Thank You for the memories, stories and just being there for us. See you again soon.  Rod

Dad loved being with family and friends, but especially children, and most importantly his granddaughters. He was so loving and caring and fun. We appreciate how special he made everyone feel.
