So sorry to hear of the passing of you dad and grandpa. We have happy memories of him and "Grandma Van" from the Childrens ministry - they were so faithful! There wasn't a child that did not love them and there wasn't a child that did not know they were completely loved and cared for by them! Our thoughts and prayers are with you .

Don has been a very special friend of ours for over 40 years. Everytime we came to Michigan we made it a point to visit with our surogate parents Don & Rose. Especially after Dale lost both his folks. Rose took right over keeping us on the narrow road; and Don was always someone you could talk with about life.
 If it wasn't that we knew he had a better place to go we would be sadder to lose this very dear friend.
 Our hearts go out to Don, Julia & Dale & Family, Sara & Matt & the girls, and Brian & Becky & their family; Connie & Larry & girls, and Bob & his family. It grieves us to again be so far we can be with you at this very sad time.

Nothing but positive memories about my uncle Don. I give my uncle Don and Aunt Rose the credit for where I am in my relationship with God today. It was 46 years ago that they convinced my parents to come and visit Grand Rapids First. I am so glad they did. I will be forever grateful. I remember so many good times with them as kids growing up from the days of camping when they had their little scamp pop up camper to those Christmas get togethers at their house. I hope to see Uncle Don standing at the gates of heaven when I someday walk through. I will miss looking across the sanctuary on Sunday morning and seeing uncle Don sitting over there but I will smile because I know that he will be shouting and singing like never before.

So sorry for the loss of your father. Your parents Rose and Don were dear friends of my parents, Helen and Woody White. They were mall walkers at Rogers Plaza and enjoyed the fellowship of the mall walker group. When my parents moved to Oakcrest Manor in Kentwood, Don and Rose were regular visitors. My mom made the scrubbies that Rose loved so much. Your mom loved strawberries and I often dropped off a carton for her to enjoy. They will both be missed very much!!

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Van Volkinburg. He - and Rose - were greatly admired by my parents, May and Cliff Burton. My father particularly respected his unwavering faith, referred to him as "Brother Don" and often said that he was a "true man of God in both deed and word". I remember him as a gentle, hardworking family man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Your loss is heaven's gain.
