Donald J. Wierenga

Don was 66 years old, born on August 21, 1933. A life long resident of Byron Center. Don was the owner of the Wierenga Insurance Agency for over 30 years. Don as a leader in the community having served as Byron Township Treasurer for over 18 years and on the Kent County Aeronautics Board for 15 years and having been an active member of the Kent County Republican Party. Don and his family are Charter members of Heritage Christian Reformed Church in Byron Center.

Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; and his four children, Ron and Diane Wierenga, Dan and Elizabeth Wierenga, Tim and Linda VanDyke, Tom and Dawn Wierenga; 10 grandchildren; his sisters and brother, Kathleen and Al Van Solkema, Betty and Neil Hall, Robert and Sue Wierenga; and several nieces and nephews. The Wierenga family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Crystal Manor in Cutlerville for providing Don with a loving home and Christian care in the final year of his life.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday 1 p.m. from Heritage Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Dale Slings officiating. Interment Winchester Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Byron Center Chapel of the Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW. Memorial contributions may be left to Wedgwood Christian Youth and Family Services and Parkinson's Disease Research.
