Miller – Douglas Ross Miller, of Walker, Michigan beloved son of Don and Norma Miller of Hudsonville, MI, passed away on Saturday, March 11 2017 from complications due to Type I Juvenile Diabetes, which he admirably battled for 40 years.
Doug was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 30, 1962 and graduated from Allegan High School and Michigan State University. Doug lived his life with kindness, curiosity, and wonder. He had a passion for teaching, especially children. Doug possessed the innate ability to explain the most difficult subjects in a way that made sense. A voracious reader, he loved a hot cup of coffee, a good game of chess, and spirited conversation. He excelled at finding joy and beauty in the ordinary – the sparkle of sunlight on the water, dancing in the kitchen, or good blues music. Doug laughed a lot, and the world is just a bit darker without that laugh and his infectious smile.
In addition to his parents, Doug is survived by two daughters, Kathlyn (Michael) Hubbard of Raleigh, NC, and Hannah Miller of Wake Forest, NC; grandson, Jason; sister, Lynnell (Jeffrey) Wiemert of Lincoln, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins; and special friend, Dave Czarnopys, of Grand Rapids, MI. Doug will be forever loved and cherished by his partner, Laurie Tange of Allegan, MI.
No formal services are being planned at this time.
If desired, to honor Doug’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 4595 Broadmoor Avenue SE, Suite 230, Kentwood, MI 49512, westmichiganjdrf.org. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
