Earl Clifford Culver Jr., age 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maribelle Culver; brother, Randal Culver; and parents Earl and Mary Culver. Earl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children Duane (Mari-Clare) Culver, Brenda (Mark) Gonyer, and Lisa (Dean) Woodard; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Gene) Miller; brother, David (Ileen) Culver; sisters-in-law Alma Culver and Suzanne Gebby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Earl was born May 18, 1939, near Bardstown, Kentucky, then spent his formative years near Niles, Michigan. After high school, he earned a BBA degree from Western Michigan University, married Maribelle in 1963, and served as an Army officer for two years including one year in South Korea. Earl began his professional career as a CPA with Price Waterhouse in Battle Creek. Haviland Products relocated his family to Grand Rapids in 1972 where he served as their controller for five years. Here in Grand Rapids, he established his own CPA firm in 1977. As a man of deep faith, he served as a faithful member of Berean Baptist Church for over 50 years, and various other mission organizations including the Gideons, Christian Business Men’s Connection, Haiti Baptist Mission, and Partners in Compassionate Care. Always eager to be productive, even in retirement he continued to be active at the accounting firm, and later by driving for Pizza Hut, Uber, and Lyft.
Earl loved to travel and spend time with his family. He drank copious amounts of coffee, enjoyed the occasional football game on TV (when he wasn’t working), and never turned down ice cream. He read his Bible daily, managing to read through his Bible in a year dozens of times. He was always happy to share some wise advice when needed, and actively shared his faith with others.
A private family committal service will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. All are welcome to the celebration of life service to honor Earl 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, with visitation beginning one hour prior, at Berean Baptist Church, 1574 Coit Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
