Edward John Aten

Ed and Cindy were married for 51 years. Ed loved his family deeply and worked very hard (at several of the major furniture manufacturing companies) to provide for them.

Ed loved to hunt, especially with his son, Jon, and brother, Jim. He loved spending time with Kennedy and Dominick when they were young, and particularly taking them fishing in his boat. He also enjoyed having a garden when they lived in Dorr, MI. He enjoyed traveling to California several years ago to spend time with Alonna.

Ed retired on disability early in 2020 due to illness. He was a warrior in his fight against CNSV for almost seven years. It was very difficult, but he was amazing and never complained. Over those years he experienced many victories, as he fought valiantly and kept his faith in God.

Ed was a kind and loving person who made friends easily. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with new friends at The American Legion, Post 208, where he joined as a Son of The American Legion in honor of his father.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; their three children Jonathan, Mary, and Timothy (and wife Jonna); and by their three grandchildren Dominick (Krista) VanHorssen, Kennedy VanHorssen, and Alonna Aten; as well as by brothers Robert, Bruce, Kerwin, Carl, James, and Warren Aten; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents James D. And Mattie (Talsma) Aten; brother, Roger; and sister, Maxine.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2-5 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at DW Cassard American Legion, 133 - 44th Street SE, Kentwood, MI 49548.
