

Edwin A. Stouten was born into this world January 23, 1922 and born into eternal grace on Saturday, July 29, 2017. For 95 years, he lived by the words of Solomon, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
Ed will be remembered for his faith, his generosity, his innovations in engineering, and his love for the great outdoors. He was the co-founder and president of Capitol Engineering where he was a pioneer in the field of Progressive Die Design. Ed was a member of Bethany/Orchard Hill Reformed Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon and an Elder. Ed was a member of the Greatest Generation who served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Ed enriched the lives of those who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Rae, his brother Herb and his wife Gerry, his sister Marian and her husband George, and his brothers-in-law Don and David.
He is survived by his children Sharon and Jim Roodvoets and Dr. Dann and Carol Stouten; his grandchildren Tom and Steve Roodvoets, Kate and Kelly Stouten, and Tara and Adam Meeuwsen; great-grandchildren Jake, Blake, and Joseph Roodvoets and Jackie and Grace Meeuwsen. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Margaret Jannenga.
Visitation will be held at Raybrook Manor Chapel, 2121 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 1 PM with the Memorial Service at 2 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the exceptional staff of the Cook Unit at Raybrook whose kindness and compassion was always evident in the exceptional care they gave Ed over the last few years.
