

Mrs. Elinore Esther (Nelson) Walstrum, age 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Elinore was born on July 4, 1923, in Hamilton County, Nebraska, to Johannes Andrew and Emma Sophia (Neander) Nelson. In 1944, Elinore earned her BA in Education from Kearney (NE) State College. After teaching kindergarten for a year, she worked at the US Office of Price Administration. On December 28, 1945, she married John W. Walstrum, who was a US Army Air Corpsman at the Kearney Army Airfield during World War II. When his service ended they returned to his home state of Michigan. They built a home in Jackson, raised a family there, and later moved to Grand Rapids. They were always very active in their local church. Elinore developed many new interests and friendships in Michigan; and she remained close to friends and family in Nebraska, particularly her sisters Marie, Theodora, and Elizabeth.
Elinore was preceded in death by John W. and her grandson, Christopher.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ann (Thayer) Lindner, and their children, Kristin and Andrew; John F. (Elizabeth) Walstrum, and their children, Benjamin, Thomas and Rebekah; William N. Walstrum; and Steven A. Walstrum; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 11 AM, at the Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center Chapel, 2067 84th SW, Byron Center, where Elinore’s family will receive guests beginning at 10 AM. Pastor Kenneth McGee and Pastor Rich McCarrell will be officiating. Interment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends may also meet Elinore’s family on Friday, February 23 from 5-7 PM at the Cook Funeral Home.
