Evelyn Oosterbaan-Young

Evelyn L. Oosterbaan-Young (Vande Riet), age 92, went peacefully into the presence of her Savior on Thursday, October 31, 2019. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Oosterbaan; and her second husband, Wm. Richard “Dick” Young.

Evie will be lovingly remembered by her children Tom and Bonnie Oosterbaan, Bill and Mary Oosterbaan, Joy and Ron Messelink, and Jeanne and Brad Cook; her 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her sisters Mary and Stan VanDokkumburg, and Arlene Zandstra; many nieces and nephews; and the Young family - David and Chris Pequet, Dale and Dawn Young, Debra and Kess Kesslering, and the Young grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evie was a kind and generous woman. She took true joy in giving to and praying for mission organizations. Evie supported the people around her in any way she could - often sending out cards or helping with laundry. Summers meant time at Silver Lake with family and friends. Fall was for Color Tours in Northern Michigan, and she loved going to Florida in the winter and spring to soak up the sun. Evelyn and Norm were highly involved in Faith Reformed Church and Grand Rapids First for many years.

A time for relatives and friends to visit with Evelyn’s family will be held from 4 - 8 PM on Sunday, November 3, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, in Grandville. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Monday, November 4, at Grand Rapids First, 2100 - 44th St. SW, in the Prayer Chapel. Rev. Ron Messelink will officiate. Interment will be at Grandville Cemetery.
