

Frances Divine Scholten Rinkus exchanged her earthly life for Eternal Glory with her Heavenly Savior on December 26, 2023. She was born in Tarrytown, NY January 28, 1929 to The Reverend Walter Augustus and Frances Marion Thoms Scholten.
Francis attended Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, New York, graduating in 1946. In 1948, Frances continued her education at Hope College in Holland, MI where she met Donald Eugene Rinkus; they married in 1949. She faithfully served her Lord as a devout member of First Reformed Church of Grandville for 70 years - teaching Sunday school and leading both the youth group and Esther Circle. Frances was very much a family-oriented woman, guiding all with devoted love and comforting prayer, having dedicated 13 years of care to her mother (1984-1997).
Residing in Grandville 60 years, she served as deputy treasurer for the City of Grandville and secretary of bank mortgage and installment loans at Grand Valley Bank for 24 consecutive years.
Frances is preceded in death by her loving husband and siblings Constance Bawinkel, Marion Kopen, Dorothy Warkenthien, Dr. Walter A. Scholten Jr. and The Rev. S. Thoms Scholten. Also, two precious grandchildren Robert Brandon and Frances Jacqueline Newell.
Frances will be lovingly remembered by her children Frances (Laurence) Newell of Mexico City, MX, Donald (Jayne) Rinkus of Grandville, MI, Robin Elaine (Gil) Baker of Holland, MI; grandchildren Douglas (Shannon) Diekman of Grandville, MI, Anthony (Kim) Rinkus of Grand Rapids, MI and Peterson Rinkus of Grandville, MI; great-grandchildren Bryce, Colin and Naomi Diekman, and Isabella and Giovanna Rinkus; brother-in-law, LaVerne Bawinkel; as well as extended family and valued friends.
The family expresses appreciation to Freedom Village Retirement Community of Holland as Frances lived there nine years. In memory of her, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
Funeral services for Frances will take place 2 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation 12-1:45 p.m. prior to service. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guest book online.
