Frank M. Fawcett, age 84 of Jenison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 28, 2020. He was born on Valentine’s Day 1936, in Princeton, Iowa to Francis and Rhoda Fawcett. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron; and granddaughter, Madison.
Frank graduated from Senn High in Chicago, excelling in track and field, mathematics, science and was the chess champion of Senn High School. He became a Kemper Ins. Co. Scholar, and was offered three scholarships. The Illinois Institute of Technology was his choice. He was offered a position at Kemper Ins. and later became an officer of Kemper Corporation.
In between all this, he married Shirley Hentzelman in Davenport, Iowa, on January 1, 1958. Because of the possibility of military action in Korea, he was forced to choose a branch of the service before being drafted. He chose the National Guard and was soon shipped off to Fort Leonard Wood Army Base near St. Louis for six months training. He missed the birth of their first child, and the threat of military action in Korea faded away.
He and his brother opened Fawcett and Associates in Grand Rapids in 1978, an insurance agency for owner-operator truckers. Frank was an avid genealogist.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley; their sons Brian (Laura), Rick, Ian (Glenna); and grandsons William, Preston, and Zachary.
A time to visit with Frank’s family will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 2 - 5 pm at Cook Funeral Home, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville (West building).
