Gordon Waddell, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, June 5, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Mary Waddell; wife of 65 years, Carol Ann Waddell; son, Brett David Waddell; sister, Lynne Waddell-Boyle; beloved hounddog of 16 years, Sasha. He is survived by his oldest son, Todd Waddell; daughter, Amber (Jeff) Bolhouse; grandchildren Sean (Korinna) Waddell, Tyler Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Trenten Bolhouse, Lindsay (Luke) Steele, Jacob Waddell, and Adam Waddell; great-grandchildren Alyza and Luka Steele.
Gordon was a hard worker who was smart, driven, ambitious and yet humble. He was dedicated to provide for his family. He spent over a half century working as a plant manager and operations director for an egg processing facility. He started at McClure egg company, then at McCully egg company, and ended his career at Sunrise Acres in Hudsonville and finally retired at 75 years old. He had a great sense of humor and often told people, "he chased chickens for a living."
He enjoyed being outdoors spending time in Ludington, MI. He loved sitting on his deck watching the birds, camping with family, fishing, and taking walks through the woods. Gordon was and avid sports fan and closely followed the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Lions, and Red Wings - even when the season wasn't going well. He was also a big Michigan Wolverine football and basketball fan. He loved antique cars and owned a 1938 Ford Coupe.
Gordon enjoyed spending time with longtime friends or chatting with random people that crossed his path - he had the gift of gab! He loved sharing stories of his past. He loved his family wholeheartedly and had a love for dogs - always having a dog in his life. Mostly he loved his Lord and had a strong faith. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Grandville. He previously served as an elder, deacon, usher and attended many Bible studies at former churches. He enjoyed the Wednesday night gatherings and Sunday morning coffee with his friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A private family celebration of life service will be held at First Reformed Church of Grandville followed by a committal service at Rosedale Cemetery.
