Gregory Hurst

His legacy lives on through his mother, Jocelyn Swift and stepfather, Quentin Swift; siblings Jayana Simmons, Lamont (LJ) Simmons, Jayla Simmons; grandmother, Berdean Tucker; papa, James Tucker; grandfather, Charles Traylor; step-grandmother, Anna Traylor; aunt, Vonnetta Wingo; cousin, Glendale Davis; his other mother, Tina Merchant; best friend and other half, Gretchen Humphreys; aunts, uncles, family, and friends. Gregory is preceded in death by his father, Gregory N. Hurst; great-grandmothers Lois Jackson and Mildred Traylor; grandmother, Patty Burns; uncles Tuvern Wingo and Henry Hurst.

Gregory was a graduate of Olivet College with a bachelor’s degree in insurance and risk management. He worked at Farmers Insurance Group in Grand Rapids, MI. Those who knew Gregory knew he had the purest of hearts. To know him was to love him. Gregory never met a stranger and could light up a room by simply walking in. The world was a better place for having him in it. Friends and family would describe him as charming, charismatic, and “extra” (in the best way possible). Gregory was passionate about corgis, human rights, giving back to the community, theatre, and the Insurance Industry.

A memorial will be held in his honor at 1 p.m. (eastern) June 3, 2022. The memorial will be located at Gillespie Funeral Services, 1865 Eastern Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507. Guests are encouraged to wear bright, cheerful colors as Gregory wanted his memorial to be a celebration of his life.
