Harold Dekkenga, age 86, went to be with his Lord Monday, December 5, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Joy Dekkenga; children Kathy Esquenazi, Steve (Joyce) Dekkenga, Jodi (Jim) Tanis, and Scott (Jodi Lynn) Dekkenga; nine grandchildren Ahren, Gibran, Brett (Jess), Jordan, Caitlin, Jacob, Joseph (Maddee), Nicholas, and Hannah; four great-grandchildren Alexandra, Caroline, Christian, and Harper; sisters and brothers-in-law George Hyslop, Dave and Joan Velting, Jane Fennema, and Jim and Diane VanderGiessen; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Harm and Rena Dekkenga; and sister, Marleen.
Harold worked for ANR Freight for 30 years and retired from there at 56 years old. He had an extreme love for cars at a young age that carried through his life, especially hot rods. He spent a lot of his free time detailing cars for others as well as his own cars. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time together, especially during the holidays.
Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Celebration of Harold’s Life will commence 3 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2022, with visitation one hour prior at Rush Creek Bible Church, 2334 76th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Pastor Cameron Townley will be officiating. In honor of Harold and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Ministries International. The interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery.
