Our sympathies to you Mr. Toonstra,  Rich and Barb and family. So sorry for the loss of your wife , mom and grandma. She was such such a special lady to us and so many . You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.

Tried this note before and believe I messed up in getting it posted, but it’s certainly worth doing it over.  My thought is this, of all my many memories of my time in serving Second Byron, my thought and memories of times with Henrietta (and Henry) stand out as very special and precious.  She truly modeled and lived her life of faith, and this pastor was blessed indeed by spending a little time with her. Thank you, Henrietta, for living your faith vividly for all of us to see and learn from.  “Well done good and faithful servant.”

Uncle Hank, Gay, Rich & Beth - May God keep you all in His care during this time. Aunt Henrietta was always a loving and wonderful person. She made you feel loved and accepted. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! We are so joyful to know that her faith has become sight! A favorite memory of Aunt Henrietta was when we went Mini golfing. She could not hit the ball and all of a sudden she hit it square and it flew over the fence out of the park! Many, cherished visits together!!!

When we think of Henry and Henrietta we have very warm thoughts of them as a very special couple at Second Byron.  We always enjoyed visiting with them and missed seeing them when we changed churches.  We send special thoughts of sympathy to Henry, Rich and Barb and the rest of the family. Just learned of your Mom's passing. I am sure that you too, Mr Toonstra are missing your wife. She was a dear friend to my Mom, Marilyn Bosscher. In fact, I remember the Sunday evening gatherings that happened quite regularly with the Toonstras, the Masts, the Idemas and a few others..what loyal friendships! May you be comforted in knowing that she is in a beautiful place with her Lord forever.

My husband, Ken and I, and our one year old son moved to Grand Rapids in 1964.  We moved into a duplex across the street from the Toonstra family. Henrietta was my very first friend in GR. I was only 21 years old and it was my first move away from home. She was so welcoming and we found out that we had many of the same interests. Beth was the same age as our son and we would often get together for coffee and enjoyed each others company. As our family grew, Gay became one of our babysitters. 

When Ken & I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 2012, Henrietta called me to congratulate us. Even though I hadn't talked to her in many years, I was as comfortable visiting with her as I was when I first met her. She was a wonderful lady and I have many memories of our times together.

As a volunteer for the Meals-on-Wheels program I had the privilege of seeing a very special lady, and together with Henry a very special couple. They were always thankful for everything. They always counted their blessings, never complained. Henrietta, knowing my love for almond pastries, saw to it I did not lack anything. Prayers for Henry, children and grandchildren. Henk Porte.

Dear Uncle Hank, children, and grandchildren.  You had such a wonderful Godly wife, mother, and grandmother!  She was always so welcoming with her sweet smile and big heart. I  remember all the good times i had playing at your house, she made sure i felt welcome and always had time for us. We will miss her!  Praying the Lord comforts you all during this difficult time.  May you have peace knowing she is safe in the arms of her Lord and Savior. My favorite memories are of all of us gathered in the gym for Thanksgiving dinners. The aunts were all amazing at putting on a delicious feast and wonderful snacks. Playing games together and catching up on family news! 
The other fun thing was visiting at your house. We thought living next to a parking lot so you could ride your bike  around and around was sooo cool. Every time we came, Aunt Henrietta had the house beautifully clean and the food was great. Im not sure where she played the piano with the Toonstra gang but I do remember singing as a group around a piano with her. 
Aunt Henrietta was always so thoughtful and never missed birthdays. 
I am so thankful I was able to visit with both of you this Fall. I’m really grateful for the prayer shared together and the blessed assurance that Aunt Henrietta is now living her best life. Praying for you Uncle Hank and family as you adjust to a new normal.
