DITMAR- Henry Ditmar III age 73 of Grandville. "Honey I'm home", the words of this message left months ago are more true now than when finally retrieved from voicemail Friday during surgery. Monday afternoon, Henry Ditmar, known as Hank to many, went to his eternal home where he was welcomed by his heavenly Father, late parents, Ruth and Henry; sister Marcia; grandson Henry V and many others. You hardly had to know Hank to be aware of the true love and trust he had in the Lord; it shone in the way he appreciated and treated all those around him with love and great generosity. He was a beloved father who strongly led and raised a solid family. He adored the grandkids that resulted, all of whom referred to him as Papa. While we are able to have hope knowing by faith we will see him again, there is still a large painful hole that will be felt in his absence. Knowing him, laughing with him, and loving him has been an incredible gift that will be missed by all.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Carol; his children Zachary (Lynda) Ditmar, James (Penny) Houtman, Henry (Kristi) Ditmar, Pamela Schreiber and Jennifer(Matthew) Martineau; 12 grandchildren; his brother Arthur Ditmar; sister Mary Bartholomew; his in-laws Patricia Rabourn, Gary (Pat) Humphrey and Richard Humphrey.
The funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday at Grand Rapids First, Prayer Chapel, with Pastor Bernard Blauwkamp officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Cook Memorial Chapel , (east building) 4235 Prairie St. SW, and one hour prior to services Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grandville Public Schools, care of Henry Ditmar V Scholarship Fund. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookfamilycares.com.
