With complete assurance from the Holy Spirit, Henry Bouma Jr., age 83, let go of this life on December 2, 2018 and entered the presence of his Heavenly Father, only through the saving blood of his Lord Jesus Christ.
In this new home he was reunited with his parents Henry & Katie Bouma, siblings Catherine (John) Oosterhouse, Bertha (John) Flietstra, Paul Bouma, and Beulah Hofstra, and many other family and friends already there.
He leaves behind his faithful and loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn (VanderLaan) Bouma; five children Diane (Joe) Tower, Henry Jay (Jacque) Bouma, Debra (Ken) Scholma, Cheryl (Duane) Friend, and Cindy (Mark) Kooistra; grandchildren Eric Scholma, Henry John (Kim) Bouma, Rachelle (Kent) McKenzie, Luke (Jessica) Bouma, Gordon (Melenie) Kooistra, Melissa (Josh) Ghena, Katie (Chris) Huff, Brandon (Toni) Kooistra, Andrew (Naomi) Friend, Jordan Tower, Elizabeth Friend, Ashley (Ryan) Huisman, Jason Friend, Ellie (Chris) Granlee, Molly Kooistra, Madelyn Kooistra, and Maye Kooistra; 11 great-grandchildren; brother John (Sharon) Bouma; sisters-in-law Betty Bouma, and Henrietta (Elmer) Visser; brother-in-law Karl (Betty) Hofstra; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Henry also leaves behind many cherished and faithful friends who richly blessed him with their love and support.
Henry was a faithful servant, selfless and caring for all those whom God brought into his life. He was gifted with leadership skills as a business visionary leading Lumbermen’s Inc. from a simple wholesale pick-up location for building materials in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the four-state multiple location enterprise it is today. He and Carolyn were generous with the resources God had entrusted to them and used those resources to bless others.
We cannot imagine how much we will miss our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and faithful friend, but are absolutely confident that one day we will be together again, rejoicing in Jesus’ wonderful presence. To God be the glory.
Henry’s family will meet with friends and relatives from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St., S.W., Grandville, Michigan, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Funeral services for Henry will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 8 at First Byron Christian Reformed Church, 8541 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, Michigan. A private family interment will take place at Winchester Cemetery.
The family wishes to express special thanks to his home care nurses and the staff at Waterford for their loving and compassionate care.
