

FISH- Herbert "Herb" Fish age 91 of Battle Creek, MI, passed away on January 1, 2013. Herb was born in Decatur, Indiana on December 2, 1921. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Armeta W. Gast, whom he married while in the army at Camp Adaire, Oregon on Jan 30, 1943. He is survived by his children, Herbert W. (Lahna), Juanita Pinkel (Gary), Michael (Linda), Mary Chivis, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vida & Esthel Fish, and five brothers and sisters.
Herb attended Godwin High School in Grand Rapids and Draftsman College in Wichita, Kansas. He was employed by Castiloy Tool & Die in Detroit, MI. at the time he was drafted into the army's 96th Infantry Division. His outfit liberated the Philippine Islands and fought in Okinawa, which defeated the Japanese in WWII. He was severely wounded in the Battle of Okinawa and was honorably discharged on Dec. 25, 1945 with many ribbons and medals. He was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone in 1946 and retired in October 1983. Herb was very artistic and enjoyed creating stained glass items and wood carving projects.
Visitation will be Friday, January 4, 2013 at 10:30am with funeral services following at 11:30am at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI (east building,) with Reverend Mark Looman officiating.
