I will miss Uncle Herman. I will miss him coming to the farm and giving him mule rides. I will miss him at the dinner table. I am glad that he is in Heaven. I will always miss him. Love, Johnny

Our family has had the privilege of knowing and loving Herm at Special Ed. Ministries and Camp Sunshine for many years. My husband Tim was Herm's teacher at SEM this year. Although Herm could not speak in clear sentences, we'd communicate through lit up eyes and face to face smiles. Then on my birthday 4/24/08,I received a priceless gift. Herm stood up at SEM and sang "He Touched Me and Made Me Whole" in the strongest, clearest, most beautiful voice! Herm did not sing this for my birthday for he did not even know it was my birthday, he sang to honor God. Little did Herm know it will be a birthday gift I'll never forget. We praised God for such a wonderful miracle. : From that point on, when SEM would sing Herm's song, he'd run over and grab the mic and sing with such enthusiasm and strength! Herm was diligent in taking the collection each week and carefully counted every bill placing them in proper direction in the stack. We are all blessed to have known such a witness of God. We will truly miss Herm and look forward to reuniting in heaven some day. :

To the family of Herman De Haan, I had the privilege of meeting Herm at a number of Christmas parties over the years. We would decorate cookies and he would always have frosting in his mustache due to licking the knife after spreading frosting on cookies. He snuck quite a few chocolate chips, too! He would not always participate when we sang Christmas carols, so I was amazed when I heard him sing "He Touched Me" as a special number while on "tour" with S.E.M. It brought tears to my eyes. I had the priveledge of getting to know Herm at Parkview. He would always share a cup of coffee with me in the mornings when I worked weekends. Herm was a great guy. He liked to joke around and have fun. Herm also liked to sing and took pride in singing for the Lord. I remember hearing him for the first time when we took the residents to one of the SEMS concerts. He sang "He Touched Me" and I was touched. What an awesome blessing. Now he is lending his voice to the heavenly choir.

Herm was such a special person. We are tutors at Special Ed Ministeries in Zeeland. Darlene Veltema is my student and so some times Herm would walk with us to church. I was so touched when Herm sang "He Touched Me" . I'm sure Jesus was so touched by that as we were. We will miss him greatly but he is singing with Jesus now.
