

James E. Barritt, age 71, passed away October 7, 2025. Jim was born February 6, 1954 to Max and Leonora Barritt in St. Joseph, Michigan. He graduated from Wyoming Park High School and was a member of the undefeated 1971 football team. In 1976, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree.
His career paths led him to bank management, leasing management, and accounting. He and his family were charter members of Christ Lutheran Church. He formed the finance committee in 2003 and served as the chairman for 24 years. He also served on the council for three different terms, once on property and twice as treasurer, and was the bookkeeper for two years.
He is remembered not only for his intellect, but his love of books, his unwavering support of University of Michigan sports, and his tireless dedication to church leadership.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lynn; brothers Michael Barritt (Kimberly) and David Barritt (Karen); brothers-in-law Robert Vander Zee (Gayle) and Donald Vander Zee (Patricia); many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2350 44th St. SW, Wyoming, MI, with Pastor Rob Schmidt officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at church prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
