

James Gilbert Minnema, age 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, October 10, 2025. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Minnema; parents Gerrit and Susie Minnema; brothers Mike Minnema, Bill Minnema, and Gil Minnema.
Jim was born and raised in Wisconsin where he worked on the family farm. After high school graduation, he moved to Michigan and met his future wife, Bonnie. He served in the Army military police before starting his career at General Motors Fisher Body Plant #1. Jim was hired as a clerk typist and with determination and hard work developed the skill to become a senior manufacturing engineer during his 40 year tenure. He enjoyed a lengthy retirement filled with traveling, golfing, family time, and watching the Detroit Tigers. Jim was always ready to help anyone or fix any problem. His love for his wife and family was remarkable.
He is survived by his children James A. (Mary) Minnema, Cindy (Lee Medema) Bystra, and Karen (Greg) Opple; grandchildren Tim (Jamie) Minnema, Nick (Amanda) Minnema, Aaron Minnema, Tiffany Bystra, Tanner (Nicole) Opple, and Mason Opple; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will take place from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with a private family gathering afterward. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in Jim’s online guestbook.
