On Saturday, January 18, 2025, James (Mike) VanDuinen, age 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly and his grandson, Sean VanDuinen. He is survived by his children Jeff (Joni) VanDuinen, Sue (Greg) Winer, and Tim (June) VanDuinen; six grandchildren Scott VanDuinen, Katie (Jake) Tury, Jon (Erin) Winer, Mike (Liz) Winer, Dan (Alicia) Winer, Matt (Lesley) VanDuinen; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Steve (Sally) VanDuinen; sister-in-law, Nancy Steiner; and friends.
Mike was a member of First (Park) Congregational Church, UCC. Mike worked for Michigan Consolidated Gas (DTE) for 40 years in a variety of positions. He loved dogs, square dancing, woodcarving, and camping. In his retirement years, he volunteered with the Wyoming Police Department and worked at the Kent County International Airport.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rose Garden and Faith Hospice, especially Kathy Babcock, for the kind and compassionate care they provided.
Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon Saturday, February 15, 2025 at First (Park) Congregational Church, 10 E. Park Pl. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. A private family interment will follow visitation. In honor of Mike and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First (Park) Congregational Church or Humane Society of West Michigan.
