Jean Kennedy Canter

Mrs. Jean Kennedy Canter, age 89 of Jenison, MI and Naples, FL slipped quietly into the presence of her Lord and Savior on November 12. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allan. Jean was born May 11, 1922 to Fred and Julia (Blakeney) Kennedy. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Richard (Bedminster, NJ) and her daughter Cindy and Bob Sandberg (Sparta, MI). Blessed by her love and care are her grandchildren: Sarah Canter & Rene Montenegro (Baltimore, MD); Dr.Todd & Amanda Chassee (E.Grand Rapids, MI), Brad & April Chassee (Huntsville, AL), Marielle & Ethan Weikel (Catonsville, MD), step grandchildren Jennifer Sandberg (Portland, OR) and Abby Sandberg (Chicago, IL). Four precious great grandchildren: Allana, Drew, Will and Carolina; her dear sister Betty & Bill Hodson (Allendale, MI), sister/brother in law (best buddies); Virginia & Herb Koster (Holland, MI); six wonderful nieces/nephews and special loving friends, Jane & Bill Sneeringer (Catonsville, MD) and Alfredo Olivas (Bedminster, NJ).

Jean grew up on a farm in Allendale, MI; graduated from Blodgett Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked as an RN at several hospitals during WWII. As her children neared college she returned to nursing working at Michigan Christian Home until her retirement. She was active over the years in many church activities including Pioneer Girls and Camp Cherith. Funeral Services will be held Friday, 11 AM at the Cook Memorial Chapel (east building), 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville, with Pastor Doug Wood officiating. Relatives and friends may meet her family Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Cook Funeral Home (west building). In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean may be made to Hope College School of Nursing or Calvin College School of Nursing.
