Jean and Peter shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, built on a foundation of faith and love. Born in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, Jean immigrated to the United States in 1951 to begin a new life grounded in faith, family, and love.
Jean's gentle spirit shone through in the simple joys she loved most: tending her flower gardens, reading a good book, and taking special joy in crocheting with care.
Jean's life was a reflection of her faith, kindness, and commitment to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished her family dearly. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her generous heart, and the warmth she shared so freely with everyone she met. Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in knowing she has entered her eternal home and rests safely in the arms of her Savior.
As it is written in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness."
She is survived by her three children Dirk (Myra) Haan, John (LuAnn) Haan, and Linda (Don) Kommer; eight grandchildren Tanya (Dan) Bolkema, Trent (Jenny) Haan, Anna Lambert (Ed), Jody Haan, Renee (Dan) Danneffel, Nikkie (Brian) Clark, Stacy (Rob) Lott, and Christopher (Morgan) Kommer; 17 great-grandchildren Hunter (Niki), Alexis (Ben), Cierra (Eldin), Jennah, M.J., Kolton, Jeremy, Mattilynn, Samantha, Brittany, Zach, Landon, Gage, Presley, Monroe, McCoy, and Callaway; and three great-great-grandchildren Addi, Tucker, and Provin. Also surviving Jean are her brother, Edward (Linda) Groenendal; sister-in-law, Theresa Groenendal; many nieces and nephews; and a devoted circle of friends who brought joy and companionship into her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Railside Assisted Living Center or Interim Hospice.
