She was a beloved wife, mother, Nana, Great-Nana, sister, and friend, surrounded by the love of her family. She was married to her devoted husband, Lynn Leon Maten, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a home centered on family, loyalty, and quiet strength.
Jean is survived by her loving children: son, Chadwick Neil Maten and his wife, Carla Maten; and daughter, Wendy Lynn Eckerle. She was a proud and devoted Nana to Trevor and his wife, Amber; Tyler (deceased); Tanner Maten and his fiancé, Kendra; Alexis and her husband, Joe Mills; Calvin and his wife, Megan Eckerle; and Jayde and her husband, Rawls Fortenberry. Her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren—Kaden, Zachery, Cameron, Olivia, Addison, Lillian, Amelia, and Sage—all of whom lovingly knew her as Nana Jeannie.
She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary Ogg; and her brother Tom Ogg and his wife Sara. As well as her brother-in-law Vern Kayser. Jean was preceded in death by her siblings Joe Ogg, John Ogg, and Patricia Kayser. She also leaves behind many extended family members and treasured friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Jean dedicated her life wholeheartedly to her family. She was truly the best wife, mother, sister, Nana, and Great-Nana anyone could ever ask for. Her love was steady, selfless, and unconditional. She showed up for everything—ball games, school events, celebrations, and the everyday moments that mattered most. Her family always knew they were her greatest pride and joy. She had a special way of making each child and grandchild feel deeply loved, supported, and important.
Nothing brought her more happiness than time spent together, especially the many trips to the lake, where she delighted in watching the kids swim, boat, laugh, and enjoy every lake activity. Those memories—full of sunshine, splashes, and family togetherness—will forever be treasured.
She was deeply grateful for the cherished friends in her life who were always there to share a game of Bingo, a trip to the casino, a Diet Coke, a cigarette, and long conversations filled with laughter and companionship. Her friendships were dear to her heart and brought her much comfort and joy.
Jean will be remembered for her devotion, strength, humor, and the endless love she poured into her family. Though she will be profoundly missed, the example she set and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A memorial Mass to honor Jean's life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation an hour prior. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
