Jeanne Marie Beauvais, age 74, went to be with her Lord Monday, April 18, 2022. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Robert E. and Ruth Beauvais; brother, Robert A. Beauvais. She will be remembered by her brother, Bruce (Susan) Beauvais; many cousins and friends.
Jeanne graduated from Grandville High School in 1965, the first class from the new building. Continuing her education, she attended Wayne State University, earning a B.S. in Medical Technology. That led her to Harper Hospital (later DMC) where she became a blood bank specialist. She remained there for over 40 years, retiring in 2012. Moving back to Grandville, she became active in the Grandville Historical Committee continuing work begun by her brother, Bob.
While in Detroit, she was active in square dancing and began a deep dive into genealogy. She was the French-Canadian expert for a number of internet forums and had traced the family back to the 15th century. Her knowledge of blood work combined with genealogy made her a natural for the evolving field of DNA genealogy. Contacts made through DNA study lead to the discovery of hundreds of cousins throughout the world, who became friends.
As her mind was busy with DNA studies, she kept her hands busy as an avid quilter. She created many memorable pieces for family and friends. With the West Michigan Quilters Guild, many beautiful quilts were created for veterans.
When COVID-19 hit Michigan, she became a volunteer contact tracer working two-hour shifts virtually every day. Her sewing skills transferred to mask making, including a special run of 50 masks with clear inserts for the hearing impaired.
Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Celebration of Jeanne’s Life will commence at 11 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Grandville-Jenison Congregational Church, 3900 Henry St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. In honor of Jeanne and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grandville Historical Commission. Interment will be at Floral View Memorial Gardens. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
